Falkland Islands Tourist Board Awards 2018
Falkland Islands Tourist Board’s annual awards
With the exception of the "Executive Directors Award" all the awards which reflect the Leisure and Tourism Industry within the Falkland Islands are voted by the travellers and tourists to the Islands. The awards cover a number of catogories, including best tour guide, visitor experience of the year and outstanding customer service.
Winners each received a specially created cast sculpted by Steve Massam, of a “Quark” local name for the Black-crowned Night-Heron and a framed certificate.
Margaret Williams - Manager of Falkland Islands Holidays who took over from Jenny and her team, Sue and Jenny are delighted to have won the award. "We not only want to thank everyone who voted for Falkland Islands Holidays as agency of the year. But also a huge thank you to our extended team of transport links, accommodation providers and knowledgeable guides. This award recognises the first class service and professionalism that everyone provides season after season". Margaret continued "Congratulations everyone - we could not look after our visitors so well without all of you".
"Executive. Director’s" Award for outstanding contribution to tourism 2018
awarded to Jenny Luxton
Jenny’s involvement in hospitality and tourism in the Falklands has covered several decades; most people may recognise Jenny for her multiple seasons as manager of Sea Lion Island Lodge. Though Jenny has had a variety of jobs spanner her long working career, Jenny's involvement with leisure and tourism began in 1986 as the owner manager of Monty’s Restaurant in Stanley, then continuing through multiple seasons as manager of the Sea Lion Island lodge and, before and after that, as manager of Falkland Island Holidays.
Tom Swales Managing Director of Stanley Services Limited (which owns and operates Falkland Islands Holidays and the Malvina House Hotel) stated “This is a fantastic advert for tourism for the Falklands Islands. I am so pleased for Carl Stroud (GM) and his team at the Malvina House Hotel who really do work hard to ensure that all their guests are looked after. I am delighted that Margaret Williams as newly appointed the manager of Falkland Islands Holidays taking over from Jenny Luxton, has continued the high standards of looking after our clients. The team of Margaret, Jenny and Sue have had a particular interesting and challenging year, rearranging people’s holiday itineraries due to flight delays and cancelations, to ensure that the traveller still has an amazing experience whilst on Island despite the disruptions. Jenny Luxton wholeheartedly deserves the award for “outstanding contribution to tourism” she has been the main driver for land based tourism for a period of over 30 years. I am so proud of all our team members who work tirelessly to contribute to the Falkland Islands tourism industry at large and the awards are a small recognition of each persons, hard work and dedication to their profession”.
